How long is the FREC 4 course?

The Qualsafe First Response Emergency Care (Level 4 RQF) is a 5-day course designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to handle a variety of emergency situations.

Assessment

The assessment for the Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (FREC 4) is multifaceted, designed to ensure learners comprehensively understand and can apply their skills and knowledge in various emergency care scenarios. Here's a summary of the assessment methods:

  1. Practical Assessments and Skills Tests:

    • Learners are observed throughout the course, demonstrating their practical skills in real-life scenarios or simulations.

    • Assessments include Immediate Life Support (Adult) practical assessment, assessment and treatment of trauma, physiological observations, assisting with clinical interventions, and immobilisation and extrication equipment.

    • These assessments are crucial for evaluating hands-on skills in emergency care.

  2. Assignments:

    • Learners are required to complete three workbooks, one for each component of the course.

    • These assignments are completed off-course and are designed to assess the learner’s understanding and application of theoretical knowledge in practice.

  3. Invigilated Exams:

    • Two exams are conducted during the course.

    • The ECG recognition exam requires a 50% pass mark and has a 15-minute time limit.

    • The applied anatomy and physiology exam demands a minimum pass mark for every question with a 45-minute time limit.

    • These exams test the learner’s theoretical understanding of key course concepts.

  4. Assessment Criteria and Pass Mark:

    • Each area of assessment must meet or exceed the required pass criteria or mark for the learner to achieve the qualification.

    • The assessment criteria are aligned with the learning outcomes and are detailed in the course specifications.

  5. Grading:

    • The qualification assessments are graded on a pass/fail basis.

    • All mandatory areas of assessment must be passed individually for the learner to successfully complete the qualification.
